Rogart Heritage Society held a festive evening in the Rogart Hall on 29th December. It was well attended in spite of the stormy weather.
The event commenced with a random dip into the archives, showing images of the parish, which was followed by a tourist promotion film of Sutherland from the 1960s.
After a break for mulled wine and mince pies, the evening concluded with a ceilidh with the emphasis being on song and music which had a Rogart connection.
Contributions came from Liz Quinn and members of her talented young musical group; Michael Simpson read "The Corry Burn" and sang "Bonnie Annie," with a leaning towards local dialect being much appreciated; songs from Mairi Munro included a local song about the clearance of Aberscross; Jack Ross and Monica Maclean gave selections on accordion and Monica then played two tunes from the pipe music book of Donald Sutherland of Craigton followed by a poem composed by his nephew, the late Bert Sutherland on "Dancing in Rhilochan."
Thanks went to Iain Allan for undertaking the projection of the film, Alex Campbell for looking after the raffle and to the people who contributed, also, all who provided for and served the mulled wine and eats.
The next heritage evening will be sometime in February and the subject will be on railways.
