Voters have until 4 pm on Thursday, 2 February, to return their ballot papers. The count will take place locally on Friday, 3 February.

Quilters – The School House Quilters group who meet in Lairg Learning Centre every Monday morning were delighted to receive a grant of £1000 from Lairg Windfarm, Scottish Community Foundation ABO Wind UK Ltd, towards purchase of materials for the class and to part fund use of the room in the Learning Centre.

Materials will include a sewing machine, ironing board and iron, cutting boards, specialized quilting rulers, rotary cutters, bonding materials and various quilting and appliqué accessories. The group, which was started a year ago with Diane Namon from Lairg as the tutor, has proved to be very popular and now has more than ten participants from Lairg, Rosehall and Bonar Bridge. Students have learned a variety of techniques including patchwork, quilting and appliqué and have made wall hangings, cushion covers, table runners, quilts, bags, advent calendars and Christmas decorations.

They have already had one exhibition of their work which took place during Mayfest last year and are planning to hold another exhibition later this year.

Craft work and sewing has become very popular again in the 21st century and anyone else interested in joining the group or a special quilting class which takes place on Monday evenings at the same venue should get in touch with the Lairg Learning Centre, telephone 01549 402050.
