Over the Christmas period, the team had various fundraising activities:
Mrs F Sutherland sold Lifeboat Cards at the Craft Fair in November in the community centre and raised £70.
There was a beautiful Christmas cake baked and donated by one of the stalwart supporters, which was put up for raffle in the La Mirage restaurant. The winning ticket was drawn on Christmas Eve and won by Mrs C Bokas, Portgower. The raffle was very successful, bringing in £70 for the RNLI new "Lifejacket Appeal".
The team then turned their attention to organising a Pool Competition and Raffle for Hogmanay in the Bannockburn Inn which turned out to be as equally successful, the first prize of a hamper again going to Mrs Bokas. However there were lots of other raffle prizes to be won.
The pool competition itself was won by Fergus McFarlane- Barrow, Helmsdale, who won the RNLI Shield and a haunch of venison. Runner-up was Philip Marshall, Helmsdale, winning a bottle of whisky.
This competition is gaining in popularity since it was started four years ago. This year's total for the pool event was £240.
RNLI headquarters in Poole say that this year their main aim is to issue the Lifeboat Crew with the latest lifejackets which have been scientifically enhanced for the protection of the crews, so all money raised was sent to Poole to help with that project.
