The Dornoch Cinema held its second AGM last Thursday night, announcing buoyant financial results.
Over the past 12 months, levels of attendance have steadily increased, particularly for recent first-run movies. The runaway success of the year was “The King’s Speech” last May. Classics such as “Casablanca” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” also proved to be popular. “True Grit”, “Hanna” and “Bridesmaids” brought in a wider age range.
New sofas have added to the comfort of the audience, as has offering free snacks, tea, coffee and wine. It was decided to keep the regular entry fee at £4 (compared with £7 in Inverness and £14 in London) and £2 for children.
Cinema membership is to be kept at £30 for free entry to12 screenings, plus six members-only screenings a year. Members can also borrow from the cinema’s DVD library. Publicity is to include greater use of the website and Facebook.
The next screening will be on 18th February and is “Tinker Tailor Solider Spy” with Colin Firth and John Hurt. The screening for 24th March will be the Oscar-nominated film “The Help” and on 21st April, “Midnight in Paris” by Woody Allen.
Mark Fraser (01862 810958) will continue to chair this Dornoch and District Community Association (DADCA) sub-committee, with Ernie Millard, Joan Easson and Paddy Murray assisting.
The next programming meeting plus members’ evening will be on April 12.
