Community Council – Creich Community Council met in the Invershin Hall last week, when Broadband speed and poor service in Rosehall was discussed at some length.
There has been no reply so far from BT to the letter sent in November by the community council, although MP John Thurso has taken the issue to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport which deals with Broadband issues within its communications remit.
In recent weeks the Broadband service in Rosehall has been subject to constant breaks in service, often too many times in one day to count, causing major inconvenience and, in the case of local businesses, loss of revenue.
A further letter will be sent to BT, copied again to the MP and MSP, and Rosehall residents are also encouraged to write individual letters of complaint.
Representatives of the Bonar Bridge/Ardgay Golf Club gave a detailed and informative presentation in support of their application to the Beinn Tharsuinn Windfarm Community Benefit Fund, which resulted in their application being approved.
GREAN will be contacted again to urge the setting up of the agreement with the community council to take on the task of keeping the recycling point in Bonar Bridge clean and tidy.
Impaired access to Balblair Woods from Invershin will be addressed at a site meeting on January 27th, which will be attended by community councillors, Highland Councillor Robbie Rowantree and Ward Manager, Andy Mackay, and two Forestry Commission officials.
Local residents who live beside the entrance will be invited. It is hoped that bringing all interested parties together will lead to all relevant issues being resolved.
Spinningdale safety issues will be pursued by Cllr Rowantree with regard to possible erection of a safety barrier and better signage.
Locals were told that white lining with chevrons would be carried out in the village but this has not happened as yet.
Flooding has been a major concern in recent weeks. Cllr Rowantree stated that Highland Council plans to provide more funds for road improvements throughout the region with particular attention to drainage and pothole problems.
The "Smiley Face" speeding sign purchased by the community council has now been equipped with a trailer to make it easily moved between locations. It is hoped to have it in place for the first time within the week.
Details of the proposed Sallachy windfarm were discussed but the community council will take no action on this meantime.
It was proposed that discussions could be opened between Creich and Ardgay Community Councils regarding the setting up of an endowment fund utilising some of the community benefit accrued from the Beinn Tharsuinn Windfarm.
A tree has been purchased with monies from the Stephen Mouat Memorial Fund and a planting ceremony will be arranged in the near future.
The next meeting of the Community Council will be on Tuesday, 21st February, at 7.30pm in the Achness Hotel, Rosehall.
As always, members of the public are encouraged to attend and will be made most welcome.
