AN HGV driver kept his licence after he was found drunk in charge of a car eating a carry out meal.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Kevin Macdonald (31) of Galloway Drive, Culloden was seen heavily intoxicated and staggering beside the car in Barn Church Road, Inverness, on May 6.
He admitted being drunk in charge of the vehicle but Sheriff Ian Abercrombie said he would impose a hefty fine rather than ban him.
The court was told he was seen by police staggering about and getting into his vehicle to eat the meal.
Macdonald had a clean driving licence and he was fined £1700 and his licence was endorsed seven penalty points.
The Sheriff warned Macdonald if he appeared before him again the consequences would be severe.
