A 30-ton, coal lorrry came to grief during a delivery to a Golspie householder today (Wednesday).

The driver of the fully-laden lorry was negotiating the dirt track running alongside the Big Burn and accessed off the end of Duke Street, when the accident happened.

A four-metre stretch of the grass verge on the side of the road collapsed, sending the vehicle toppling part-way down the bank.

The delivery lorry is operated by Tain firm Fergusson Coal. Managers called in Bannermans of Tain to recover the stranded vehicle.

The accident happened at around 9am and the vehicle was recovered by noon.
