Author John Logan and his mother Agnes, who was born and brought up at Achriesgill.

A HIGHLAND author, whose latest novel was rejected by a number of publishing houses, decided to take matters into his own hands and publish it himself as a Kindle ebook.

John Logan made his thriller The Survival of Thomas Ford, which is set in Inverness and Drumnadrochit, available for download at the end of December.

Twins Ina (left) and Isa Sutherland. THIS is the second instalment of Isabella (Isa) A. Sutherland's account of life at Lairg Higher Grade School in the 1920s, an extract discovered by her niece, Irene Grant of Lairg. The 'Ina' mentioned in the piece is Irene's mother, Isa's twin sister. AT Lairg Higher Grade school I enjoyed my secondary education, though the headmaster was a bit intimidating. He had been shell shocked in the First World War and this affected him from time to time and he brought it out on the pupils.

THE Reader Offer Break advertisement in this newspaper was so tempting. Fly direct from Inverness to Jersey at a cracking price to a great hotel - irresistible. It was a "last-minute" deal and we left on the following Saturday.
